On 5 May 2013 Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh was sieged by 6 to 7 million people from all over the country. This was a result of a one month ultimatum given to the government on 6 April 2013 during the 6 million march in Dhaka which is said to be the biggest gathering in Bangladesh history. The demonstration was peaceful until the police started firing without any reason. During the day atleast 20 to 30 people were killed and over 200 injured. Millions of people gathered in Shapla Squrae and the Ameer (leader) of Hifazat e Islam Allama Ahmed Shafi (93 years old) said no one will leave the square until their demands were met. Around midnight, the government of Bangladesh shut down the electricity, and the live media broadcast. The people still stood their, reciting 'Allahu Akbar' (God is Almighty). While the electricy was cut off in Dhaka's Shapla Square where millions of Muslim Ummah had been demonstrating all day; around 3am Police and Govenrmnt special forces RAB along with the National Guards attacked tens of thousands of people who were performing Tahajjud Salat (Prayer) and reciting 'Allahu Akbar' Dhikr. Many were sleeping They were attacked with thousands of rounds of bullets, tear gas and sound greneades. The helpless people who had no weapons nor shelter to defend themselves were driven away from Shapla Square. People witnessed many dead bodies on the streets, most of them Madrasa (Islamic University) students. According to those who survived the massacre and managed to escape said they saw atleast 5000 dead bodies. According to witnesses thousands of dead bodies were taken away by 25 trucks. They are Shaheed (Martyred) Insha'Alah. The government is hiding its tracks and monitoring all print and electronic and even social media. Censorship has intensified on domestic coverage since the incident. No foreign reporters were granted access to Shapla Square. During the incident 2 popular TV Channels of Bangladesh 'Diganta TV' and 'Islamic TV' were shutdown while they were broadcasting live and they were about tell their audience what had occurred.
